ABOUT

Teresa Mortell-Stevens

I started my private practice to support adults who felt overwhelmed by relationship challenges and anxiety, often stuck in cycles that left them drained and uncertain about the future.

I understand the profound impact these difficulties can have, leading to feelings of exhaustion, despair and frustration. It is possible to regain happy, balanced and fulfilling relationships with the right support in place.

Through my work with parents and carers, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the emotional and practical demands of caring for a loved one with a mental or physical health condition.

Alongside three decades of working in a corporate, I’ve navigated motherhood, divorce, parenting, a blended family and loss, giving me deep insight into life’s challenges.

Through counselling, with an empathic therapist without fear of judgement, and ongoing self-exploration I have found my own answers to my unique challenges.

Self-care is foundational to both my life and counselling practice. My regular practices include cuddles with my cat, daily time in green spaces, pilates, yin yoga and long chats with friends with steaming cups of tea.

As a therapist, I bring both real-world experience and deep empathy to my practice.

Qualifications & Experience

When choosing a therapist, it’s important to know that you are in safe hands. My professional standards are over seen by my membership body, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have certificates in Counselling Skills and Studies, and a BSc Hons in Humanistic Counselling.
I am constantly investing in being the best therapist possible for you. Currently, I’m studying for the COSRT Couple and Relationships Certificate. I have professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

  • BSc Hons Humanistic Counselling (Middlesex University)
  • Diploma in Humanistic Counselling (Metanoia Institute)
  • Online Counselling training certificate (Open University)
  • Peer Coach training (Beat – The UK’s largest Eating Disorder Charity)
  • University of Wales (Swansea) MPhil Operational Research
As a counsellor I have worked with adults experiencing a wide variety of presenting issues, in the Metanoia Counselling and Psychotherapy Service, Richmond Aid Counselling Service and a local university Student Wellbeing Service. Prior to counselling I spent several years as a group facilitator, running a support group for carers of loved ones affected by an eating disorder, and for several years volunteered for Beat, providing one-to-one peer coaching for parents.

What to Expect in Our Sessions

I am a Humanistic Integrative counsellor, believing, as humans, we are doing the best we can in our individual circumstances.

My theory of change is “change occurs when one becomes what they are, not when they try to become what they are not” (Arnold Beisser).

The foundation of our counselling work is our relationship. I will offer a warm, compassionate environment to build trust, enabling you to express the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are challenging you in the here-and-now.

I approach therapy with a deep curiosity about who you are at your core – your struggles, values, and the obstacles keeping you from becoming the person you aspire to be. Together, we’ll embark on a collaborative, non-judgemental journey of discovery. I hope to help you find the courage to explore and accept the parts of yourself that may have once felt too difficult to acknowledge.

I hope you feel that I am the right therapist for you.

Counselling in Ealing & Online

I offer face-to-face counselling in two venues:
  • Mondays and Thursdays: In my serene ground-floor garden room, in Ealing W13. A peaceful, private space serves as a calming oasis where you can speak freely and receive the support you need.
  • Wednesday evenings in Seal House, Coningsby Road, W5.

Both locations are conveniently located less than a 10-minute walk from Northfields and South Ealing Underground stations, and a 15-minute walk from Ealing Broadway. Ample parking is also available.

I also offer online therapy so you can choose what works best for you.

If you’re ready to take the next step or have questions, please get in touch.

Getting Started

I understand that reaching out for face-to-face counselling can feel intimidating, especially if it’s your first time.

That’s why I offer a free introductory 15-minute chat as an opportunity to learn more about my approach and ask any questions you may have. My goal is to ensure you feel informed, supported, and confident before taking the next step.

I’d love to hear from you
